Sun Oracle Database Appliance X3-2

  1. Start the console session.

Plug in serial cable to "SVR MGMT" port of device from PC COM1 port
Open PuTTY and select "Serial" connection type, leave baud rate (Speed) and other settings as default. If you see garbled output then the speed was altered from default, so test other baud rates until you match the changed rate and get normal text.
Remove the main top cover by holding down the green button and sliding it in the direction of the indicator arrows.
Remove the middle of the three network-related cards (lift the lever before pulling the indicated bar to unplug it) to access the main circuit board underneath it.
Using a two-pin bridge, short the jumper pins labelled “CLR SP PWD” and leave them connected.
Re-insert the network card to where it was removed.
    Plug power into device.
  2. Erase Configuration.

At the Preboot>  prompt type the host clearcmos command:
Booting linux in 3 seconds... Un-Protect Flash Bank # 1 flctrl: Recovery U-Boot (r74387) at 0x20040000 is valid (min. r66380). flctrl: Current U-Boot is not the main one. bootpkg: Not safe to boot ILOM (stat=1). Check Preboot "vers" command, then reload ILOM ("net flash") as needed. ILOM Pre-boot Menu ------------------ Type "h" and [Enter] for a list of commands, or "?" [Enter] for command-line key bindings. Type "h cmd" for summary of 'cmd' command. Can not boot to ILOM, use 'net flash' to reflash ILOM. Service mode enabled; check_physical_presence = 'no ;mfgmode'. This is Recovery U-Boot. Use "vers all" to check flash images. Preboot> host clearcmos The host is OFF(S5) (hostWantsPwr=0, powerGood=0, allowPwrOn=0|1, outOfReset=0, fatalError=0). Clearing signal for prior SP errors... OK. Operating Clear-CMOS jumper electronically.
Type the unconfig all command and confirm with y:
Preboot> unconfig all This command erases the writeable ILOM filesystems in flash, and it reverts most pre-boot settings to defaults. (See "help unconfig".) Enter 'y[es]' to continue: [no] y Erasing flash filesystems. ................................................................................ done Erased 80 sectors
Further output will return you to the prompt once the erasure completes. Type the host hard-off command and unplug power from the device:
Done resetting configuration. Optionally use "edit" or "net config" to change settings. Use "vers" to check that images are intact, then "reset" to reboot. Preboot> host hard-off
  3. Check you can log in with the default authentication.

Remove the bridge from the jumper pins you put there earlier, this involves removing and replacing the same card again.
If the baud rate was different from the default, right-click PuTTY's titlebar -> Change Settings, in that dialog go to Connections -> Serial and change the speed back to 9600 baud.
Plug power back in and allow the boot process to complete prompting you to log in.
Type root for the login and changeme for the password. You are done when the ILOM starts, taking you to the -> prompt:
Starting HT sign on daemon: htsignond . Done Starting webgo Web Server: webgo . Done Starting Detection/Diagnosis After System Boot: dasboot Done Starting Servicetags discoverer: stdiscoverer. 4. Copy all the output from the session into your records.

Right-click PuTTY's titlebar, from that dropdown menu click on "Copy All to Clipboard"
Open the file of record certifying the deconfiguration of this device and use CTRL V to paste all the output from PuTTY into that file. Formatting the text with a fixed-width font helps it look more readable.
  5. End the session.

    Close PuTTy.
