Netgear GSM7252PS

  1. Start the console session.

    Plug in serial cable to console port of device from PC COM1 port
    Open PuTTY and select "Serial" connection type, set baud rate (Speed) as printed next to port, leave other settings as default.
    Plug power into device and if a power button exists, turn it on.
  2. Erase settings and access CLI from Boot Menu.

    When prompted and before it times out type 2 for Start Boot Menu.:
    NetGear Boot code...... Version 01.00.29 06-03-2010 CPU Card ID: 0x508541 Select an option. If no selection in 3 seconds then operational code will start. 1 - Start operational code. 2 - Start Boot Menu. Select (1, 2):2
    When the Boot Menu appears type 11 for Restore configuration to factory defaults (delete config files) and confirm with y:
    Boot Menu Options available 1 - Start operational code 2 - Change baud rate 3 - Retrieve event log using XMODEM 4 - Load new operational code using XMODEM 5 - Load new operational code using USB 6 - Display operational code vital product data 7 - Run flash diagnostics 8 - Update boot code 9 - Delete backup image 10 - Reset the system 11 - Restore configuration to factory defaults (delete config files) 12 - Activate Backup Image 13 - Password Recovery Procedure 14 - Upload a file through XMODEM 15 - Download a file through XMODEM [Boot Menu] 11 Are you SURE you want to delete the configuration? (y/n):y
    When the [Boot Menu]  prompt reappears type 13 for Password Recovery Procedure:
    [Boot Menu] 13 Operational Code Date: Fri Jun 25 09:46:48 2010 Uncompressing..... Adding 0 symbols for standalone.
    Further output will bring you to the (Unit 1)> prompt. Wait a bit longer to be taken to the (GSM7252PS) > prompt. If you get a User: prompt type admin with no password:
    Instantiating /download as rawFs, device = 0x20001 Formatting /download for DOSFS Instantiating /download as rawFs, device = 0x20001 Formatting...OK.   3. Reset passwords, hostname and configuration.

    Type the enable command for elevated privileges:
    (GSM7252PS) >enable (GSM7252PS) #
    Type the clear pass command, and confirm with y:
    (GSM7252PS) #clear pass Are you sure you want to reset all passwords? (y/n) y Passwords Reset!
    Type the clear host all then the clear config commands, confirming with y:

  4. Copy all the output from the session into your records.

    Right-click PuTTY's titlebar, from that dropdown menu click on "Copy All to Clipboard"
    Open the file of record certifying the deconfiguration of this device and use CTRL V to paste all the output from PuTTY into that file. Formatting the text with a fixed-width font helps it look more readable.
  5. End the session.

    Close PuTTy.
