IBM Rack Switch G8264

  1. Start the console session.

    Plug in serial cable to MicroUSB port of device from PC serial port.
    Open PuTTY and select "Serial" connection type, leave baud rate (Speed) and other settings as default.
    Plug power into device and if a power button exists, turn it on.
  2. Enter the Boot Management Menu.

    When you see "Memory Test" press Shift B to enter Boot Menu Mode:

  3. Erase configuration.

    At the Please choose your menu option:  prompt type 2 then type f at the next prompt:
    Boot Management Menu 1 - Change booting image 2 - Change configuration block 3 - Boot in recovery mode (tftp and xmodem download of images to recover switch) 4 - Xmodem download (for boot image only - use recovery mode for application images) 5 - Reboot 6 - Exit Please choose your menu option: 2 Currently using active configuration block Enter configuration block: a, b or f (active, backup or factory): f
  4. Check the default credentials work.

    Type 6 to exit the Boot Management Menu:

    Type admin when prompted for the password, then the enable command:

  5. Copy all the output from the session into your records.

    Right-click PuTTY's titlebar, from that dropdown menu click on "Copy All to Clipboard"
    Open the file of record certifying the deconfiguration of this device and use CTRL V to paste all the output from PuTTY into that file. Formatting the text with a fixed-width font helps it look more readable.
  6. End the session.

    Close PuTTy.
