  1. Start the console session.

    Plug in serial cable to console port of device from PC COM1 port
    Open PuTTY and select "Serial" connection type, leave baud rate (Speed) and other settings as default.
    Plug PoE cable into device turning it on.
  2. Access the extended boot menu.

    When you see the line BootWare Validating... press Ctrl B only ONCE, before seeing any prompt to do so:
    System is starting...   3. Bypass configuration and boot up system.

    At the Enter your choice(0-9):  prompt type 6 to skip the current system configuration and press Enter:

  4. Disable password recovery capability

    Access elevated privileges mode:
    Press ENTER to get started. <HP>system-view System View: return to User View with Ctrl+Z.
    Type the undo password-recovery enable command and type y to confirm:

    Press Ctrl Z then type reboot and follow prompts to continue:

  5. Erase configuration and reboot.

    Repeat step 2 to access the extended boot menu and type 4 to access the file control menu:

    Type 4 to delete a file, then select each file not ending in .bin and confirm the deletion. Repeat this until the only files remaining are the .bin Operating System files:

  6. Copy all the output from the session into your records.

    Right-click PuTTY's titlebar, from that dropdown menu click on "Copy All to Clipboard"
    Open the file of record certifying the deconfiguration of this device and use CTRL V to paste all the output from PuTTY into that file. Formatting the text with a fixed-width font helps it look more readable.
  7. End the session.

    Close PuTTy.
