  1. Start the console session.

    Plug in serial cable to device from PC COM1 port
    Open PuTTY and select "Serial" connection type, leave baud rate (Speed) and other settings as default.
    Plug power into device and if a power button exists, turn it on.
  2. Access the Emergency menu

    Allow the default MSM-PRODUCT Product to boot automatically from the GNU GRUB screen
    GNU GRUB version 0.97 (632K lower / 2094912K upper memory) +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | MSM-PRODUCT Product | | ProCurve Service Partition Menu | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Use the ^ and v keys to select which entry is highlighted. Press enter to boot the selected OS or 'p' to enter a password to unlock the next set of features. The highlighted entry will be booted automatically in 1 seconds.
    At the login prompt enter the username emergency:
    LILO 22.1 boot: Loading linux................... 127.0.0.1 login: emergency
  3. Reset the manager credentials to default values.

    Type 0 at the Selection prompt:
    -------------------------- Emergency Menu -------------------------- Device information Serial number: SG2343P1JL IP address: 192.168.200.100 Select one of the following options: 1. Reset both the manager username and password to "admin" 0. Exit Selection: 1 Trying to reset manager login credentials.... Manager login credentials were successfully reset to: Username = admin Password = admin Press any key to continue.
  4. Log in with default credentials.

    Type 0 to exit the Emergency Menu, then type admin for both username and password:
    Select one of the following options: 1. Reset both the manager username and password to "admin" 0. Exit Selection: 0 127.0.0.1 login: admin Password: admin
    Further output should bring you to the CLI>  prompt:

  5. Reset configuration to factory defaults.

    Type the enable command for elevated privileges, then type the factory settings command:
    CLI> enable CLI# config CLI(config)# factory settings Determining boot order...... Initializing Intel(R) Boot Agent GE v1.2.28 PXE 2.1 Build 084 (WfM 2.0)
    Log in again with default credentials:

    The End User License Agreement should display indicating the settings are the factory defaults, bringing you to the prompt to accept the EULA:
    To the extent the terms of any HP policies or programs for support services conflict with the terms of this EULA, the terms of this EULA shall control. Do you accept (YES/NO)?>
    Do not continue, just turn off/unplug the device.
  6. Copy all the output from the session into your records.

    Right-click PuTTY's titlebar, from that dropdown menu click on "Copy All to Clipboard"
    Open the file of record certifying the deconfiguration of this device and use CTRL V to paste all the output from PuTTY into that file. Formatting the text with a fixed-width font helps it look more readable.
  7. End the session.

    Close PuTTy.
