  1. Start the console session.

    Plug in serial cable to console port of device from PC COM1 port
    Open PuTTY and select "Serial" connection type, leave baud rate (Speed) and other settings as default.

  2. Access the pre-boot switch command line interface.

    Press and hold down the Mode button.

    After 45+ seconds release the Mode button.
    The system has been interrupted prior to initializing some filesystems and loading the operating system software. Console will be reset to 9600 baud rate, need to change terminal setting first. The following commands will initialize the remaining filesystems, and finish loading the operating system software: flash_init boot
    You should be presented with the switch:  prompt.

  3. Bypass startup configuration.

    Type SWITCH_IGNORE_STARTUP_CFG=1 then the reset command, confirming with y:
    switch: SWITCH_IGNORE_STARTUP_CFG=1 switch: reset Are you sure you want to reset the system (y/n)?y System resetting...

  4. Delete configuration files and stop bypassing startup config.

    Further output should bring you to a configuration prompt, type n

    Type the enable command to access privileged mode, then the erase startup-config command confirming with y

    Type the dir command, then use the del command on all data-bearing files, the Enter key will need to be pressed twice before confirming with y each time:

    Type the conf t command to access config mode, then the no system ignore startupconfig switch all command, followed by pressing Ctrl Z:

    Type the show license all command:

  5. Copy all the output from the session into your records.

    Right-click PuTTY's titlebar, from that dropdown menu click on "Copy All to Clipboard"
    Open the file of record certifying the deconfiguration of this device and use CTRL V to paste all the output from PuTTY into that file. Formatting the text with a fixed-width font helps it look more readable.

  6. End the session.

    Close PuTTy.
