Cisco SGE2000 V01

  1. Start the console session.

    Plug in serial cable to console port of device from PC COM1 port
    Open PuTTY and select "Serial" connection type, leave baud rate (Speed) and other settings as default.
    Plug power into device and if a power button exists, turn it on.
  2. Access Startup Menu

    When prompted and before the countdown ends press the Esc key:
    Boot1 Checksum Test...............................PASS Boot2 Checksum Test...............................PASS Flash Image Validation Test.......................PASS BOOT Software Version 2.0.0.03 Built 18-May-2009 11:44:56 Networking device with 88F5181 CPU based on ARM926EJ-S core. Autoboot in 2 seconds - press RETURN or Esc. to abort and enter prom.
    This will present you with a numbered menu and an Enter your choice or press 'ESC' to exit: prompt.
  3. Switch the working mode of the unit from stacking to standalone

    At the Startup Menu prompt type 6 to access the Stack menu and press the Enter key:
    Startup Menu [1] Download Software [2] Erase Flash File [3] Password Recovery Procedure [4] Enter Diagnostic Mode [5] Set Terminal Baud-Rate [6] Stack menu [7] Back Enter your choice or press 'ESC' to exit:6
    At the Stack menu prompt type 3 to set the unit working mode, then type 1 to set it to standalone mode and press the Enter key.
    Stack menu [1] Show unit stack id [2] Set unit stack id [3] Set unit working mode [4] Back Enter your choice or press 'ESC' to exit:3 Enter unit working mode [1 - standalone, 2 - stacking]: 1 Unit working mode changed to standalone. ==== Press Enter To Continue ====
    Press the Esc key until you exit the boot menu:
    Exit from boot menu. Continue with flow.     Further output will bring you to the User Name: prompt.
  4. Log in with default credentials and ensure configuration data has been erased.

    Type cisco for both the User Name and Password, and type N when prompted to change the password:

    In the Switch Main Menu type 1 for the System Configuration Menu:

    In the System Configuration Menu type 9 to Reset to Factory Defaults and confirm with the y key:

    This will result in a system reset:

  5. Copy all the output from the session into your records.

    Right-click PuTTY's titlebar, from that dropdown menu click on "Copy All to Clipboard"
    Open the file of record certifying the deconfiguration of this device and use CTRL V to paste all the output from PuTTY into that file. Formatting the text with a fixed-width font helps it look more readable.
  6. End the session.

    Close PuTTy.
