Blue Coat 400 Series S400

  1. Start the console session.

    Plug in serial cable to console port of device from PC COM1 port
    Open PuTTY and select "Serial" connection type, leave baud rate (Speed) and other settings as default.
    Plug power into device and if a power button exists, turn it on.
  2. Reset password.

    If no password is set skip to step 3. Otherwise when prompted press the spacebar then type r and y to confirm:
    Press the space key to select an alternate system to boot. Seconds remaining until the default system is booted: 5 Hit space bar on your keyboard Type "r" to restore to factory default and then select next boot image: Seconds remaining until the default system is booted: 4 System number: WARNING: The system will be marked for re-initialization. Booting a supported system image will cause the system to re-initialize and result in loss of all configuration and log information upon next boot. Furthermore, configuration will have to be done while physically situated at the appliance. Proceed with extreme caution. Continue with system re-initialization? (y/n)[n]:y
    Type 1 to choose the latest system to boot:

    Reboot the system.
  3. Erase configuration.

    Press Enter 3 times when prompted:

    Type 1 for the commandline:
    --------------------MENU-------------------- 1) Command Line Interface 2) Setup -------------------------------------------- Enter option: 1
    Type enable for privileged access, then type the restore-defaults factory-defaults command:
    CAS> enable CAS# restore-defaults factory-defaults Factory defaults will be restored and the system will be rebooted If you proceed you will lose all settings and changes you have made. Continue? (Y/N): y Factory state restored. The SSH connection will stop working and you will not be able to reconnect with SSH after the power cycle is finished. Please use the serial console to reconfigure the system's network connections. [ 503.343639] Restarting system.
  4. Copy all the output from the session into your records.

    Right-click PuTTY's titlebar, from that dropdown menu click on "Copy All to Clipboard"
    Open the file of record certifying the deconfiguration of this device and use CTRL V to paste all the output from PuTTY into that file. Formatting the text with a fixed-width font helps it look more readable.
  5. End the session.

    Close PuTTy.
