3Com 5500-EI 52-port
Start the console session.
Plug in serial cable to device from PC COM1 port
Open PuTTY and select "Serial" connection type, change baud rate (Speed) to 19200 and leave other settings as default.
Plug power into device and if a power button exists, turn it on.
Access the BOOT MENU
Press Ctrl B when prompted to, and before the countdown ends.

A restart ignoring the current configuration is needed, so choose option 7 and confirm with y:

Further output with bring you to the <5500-EI> prompt. Type the dir command, then the del command with * for pattern matching to delete the files that are not OS boot images, confirming with y for each:

Do not continue, just turn off/unplug the device.
Copy all the output from the session into your records.
Right-click PuTTY's titlebar, from that dropdown menu click on "Copy All to Clipboard"
Open the file of record certifying the deconfiguration of this device and use CTRL V to paste all the output from PuTTY into that file. Formatting the text with a fixed-width font helps it look more readable.
End the session.
Close PuTTy.
